North Island School Track Championships

The 2026 North Island School Track Championships Combined will be held at the Grassroots Trust Velodrome in Cambridge, from 7-8 July, organised by the CNZ Events Team.

Individual events will be run in an 'Omnium style' and riders will be awarded Omnium points for placings in each event. Riders must start all individual events to be eligible for titles. Team events include Team Sprint and Team Pursuit. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 overall eligible riders in each age group.

Virtual Managers Meeting 

Click here to read the online Managers Meeting PowerPoint- at 11 May 2026. Confirmation of starters will be held on Monday 6th July from 4:30pm-5:30pm in Velo Lounge 1. 

*This is compulsory for all Team Managers to read. A sign-in sheet will be in place at Confirmation of Starters / Race Pack Pick Up for each Team Manager to sign and agree they have read this presentation.

 Race Pack Pick Up

Race pack pick up will be available between 4:30pm and 5:30pm in Velo Lounge 1, on Monday 6th July along with the confirmation of starters.

Age as at 31 December 2026.

Individual Races: U20, U17, U16, U15, U14, U13 boys and girls 

Teams Race (Includes Team Pursuit and Team Sprint): Senior (U20), Junior (U16) and Year 7 & 8
 

At a minimum competitors must be enrolled in Year 7.

 

Track Accreditation

All riders are required to be accredited to the Grassroots Trust Velodrome. You can find out more about Track Accreditation here. If you're accreditation has lapsed or you are accredited to ride at the Velodrome in Invercargill, then you can sign up for an Express Accreditation class. You can also email reception@velodrome.nz to make a booking. 


Bike Hire

There are a limited number of bikes available to hire from the Grassroots Trust Velodrome. Bike hire is for the entirety of the event, bikes are not shared. To book a hire bike, please contact the velodrome.

ENTRY DETAILS 

Entries are open now!

All entries will need to be completed by the schools sports coordinator via the Sporty platform. Parents please liaise with your school to register student riders. 

Schools must be affiliated for 2026 and follow the Guide here before they will be able to enter this event.

 

Entry Fees- 

Individual Events (Includes Scratch Race, Point a lap or Tempo Points, 515m Scratch or Keirin & Standing 250m)- $100 per rider

Team Pursuit- $60 per team

Junior Team Sprint (2 riders)- $40 per team

 Senior Team Sprint (3 riders)- $60 per team

Invoices will be generated and sent out the week following entries closing

Payments must be Received (otherwise the students will not be eligible to race)- 2 July 2026

Composite Teams - Team Sprint and/or Team Pursuit


Composite teams are eligible to compete in the Cup grade in accordance with School Sport New Zealand regulations. In the Cup grade, these teams are ineligible for medals. Instead, certificates will be awarded and recognition given on the podium to the top three composite teams in each grade.

If you wish to enter a composite team or be considered for placement in one, please email us at schools@cnz.kiwi, and we will do our best to form teams.

Please note that all composite teams are subject to approval. Full school teams will be prioritised and must be formed first (where possible) before riders can be considered for composite teams. For more information on composite teams, please refer to the Schools Cycling regulations.

All riders wishing to be considered for a composite team must already be entered into the event via their school for an individual event.

Refund Policy

Refunds requested after the entry closing date will only be processed on the presentation of a medical certificate to CNZ Schools no later than one week prior to the event finishing. All refunds will incur a $25 administration fee.

No refunds are available unless requested in writing prior to the Team Managers meeting.

RULES

This event will follow Cycling New Zealand Schools Rules.

*In the teams pursuit riders can start with 3 riders, but also must finish with 3 riders.


Health and Safety
Everyone has a responsibly towards Health and Safety at an event.

The safety of the riders, officials, volunteer and spectators are included in the event planning. If you have any questions or concerns regarding Health and Safety please report to the Event Manager. 

ACCREDITATION FOR INFIELD 

Infield access is strictly only for accredited individuals only. If you would like to have an accreditation pass for this event, please fill out the form here

Each School may have  1 x team manager, 1 x coach, 1 x mechanic, then an additional 1 x handler for every 5 riders.

Please ensure to wear your accreditation wrist bands throughout the event as these will be checked on entry.
